The Confucius Institute (CI) at The University of Western Australia (UWA) is a non-profit organisation dedicated to the promotion of Chinese language teaching and learning, Chinese cultural awareness and strengthening Western Australia-China links across business, government and the broader community.
The Confucius Institute at UWA was officially unveiled on 20 May 2005. Our new premises at the historic Claremont Campus were opened on 26 June 2006.
The Institute is a joint venture between the Office of the Chinese Language Council International (aka ‘Hanban’) (Beijing, China) and UWA. The Institute is located within the Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences. Zhejiang University (Hangzhou), one of China’s premier tertiary institutions, is the officially designated partner university.
