The Confucius Institute at UWA (CI) was officially unveiled on 20 May 2005. Our premises at the historic Claremont Campus were opened on 26 June 2006.
The CI is a nonprofit joint venture between the Office of the Chinese Language Council International (Hanban, China) and UWA. The Institute is located within the Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences. Zhejiang University (Hangzhou), one of China’s premier tertiary institutions, is the officially designated partner university. Zhejiang Province and Western Australia are also sister-states.
The CI at UWA has been widely recognised for the high quality of its work and the impact of its achievements. Many senior delegations from China have visited the CI at UWA and many leading experts and officials in the area of Australia-China relations have delivered public lectures. Among the many accolades received is the prestigious 2007 award for ‘Advanced Confucius Institute’, which was presented in a special ceremony in the Great Hall of the People, Beijing.
