The 15th “Hanyu Qiao” Competition for University Students Successful 第十五届大学生汉语桥比赛成功落幕

The 15th “Hanyu Qiao” (Chinese Bridge) Chinese Proficiency Competition for University students concluded successfully on 7th May 2016 at the Confucius Institute at University of Western Australia (UWACI) with 8 contestants from universities in ACT, SA and WA delivering speeches on how their “dreams enlighten the future”.

At the opening ceremony, Dr Xianling Song, Director of UWACI made a welcome speech, followed by the VIP speeches by Professor Anderson, Deputy Vice-Chancellor of UWA, Xu Xiao, Minister-Counselor of Chinese Embassy in Australia, and Sun Anlin, Chinese Deputy Consul-General in Perth.  They all praised the enthusiasm and achievements of Australian youths in learning Chinese language and Chinese culture and through this “bridge” to enhance the communication and friendship between Australia and China. All the VIPs wished the contestants good luck in the competition.

The competition consists of three parts: written test, public speech and cultural performance. The contestants’ interesting interpretations of their “dreams” in accurate Chinese and their amazing cultural shows were warmly applauded by the audiences. During the judge deliberation after the performance, Zhu Yuhuan and Zhou Libing, two of the UWACI volunteers, performed martial arts and Chinese folk music to entertain the contestants and audience.

At the awarding ceremony, chief judge, Ms Zhang Jieqi, briefed the global scoring and congratulated on the contestants’ brilliant performances. Then the VIPs presented the awards to the contestants. Corey Kirkham from University of Adelaide and Liam Tay Kearney from University of Western Australia won the First and Second Prizes for the year, and will participate in the 15th Global Grand Final of “Hanyuqiao” to be held in July in Changsha, China.

Every year in May, UWACI hosts both “Hanyu Qiao” Chinese Proficiency Competitions for university students of ACT, NT, SA and WA, and for WA high school students as a good opportunity for the Australian young people to show their Chinese Language skills and cultural talents in public and meanwhile for those top contestants to be selected for higher-level competitions.

5月7日,第十五届“汉语桥”大学生中文比赛澳大利亚区域选拔在西澳大学孔子学院顺利举行,来自南澳、西澳和堪培拉三州(领地)的8名大学生选手参加了这届以“梦想点亮未来”为主题的中文比赛。

开幕式上,西澳大学孔子学院宋宪琳院长致词欢迎参赛选手和嘉宾。接着,西澳大学副校长Anderson教授致辞,表达了西澳大学对中澳之间文化交流活动的大力支持,并祝愿汉语桥比赛取得成功。中国驻澳大利亚大使馆教育处徐孝公参致辞,充分肯定了中澳两国在经济、文化、教育等领域的合作,赞扬孔子学院在推广汉语教学和传播中国文化所作出的努力。中国驻珀斯总领馆孙安林副总领事孙安林女士在致辞中赞扬了澳洲青年学习汉语的热情和成绩,充分肯定了汉语文化在增进中澳交流与友好中所发挥的桥梁作用。嘉宾们都祝愿参加此次比赛的选手取的好成绩。
本次比赛分为中国语言文化知识笔试、主题演讲与才艺表演三个部分。主题演讲环节,选手们依次登场,流利的中文与精彩的演讲赢得了现场观众的阵阵掌声。他们用中文诠释了自己对于梦想的理解。其中有情真意切的家庭故事,有对学习中文的自我调侃;有个人的小梦想,也有世界的大梦想,反映了澳洲青年对于中文的热爱以及对于梦想的不懈追逐。针对评委的提问,他们也能灵活应答。演讲环节结束后,选手们呈现的文化才艺表演更是标新立异,精彩纷呈。演奏中国乐曲、唱中文歌、朗诵中文诗,用澳大利亚手语演绎的中文歌曲、中国升旗仪式的精彩再现等节目都赢得了观众的阵阵掌声。在评委统计比赛成绩的同时,西澳大学孔子学院的志愿者朱宇寰和周丽冰为选手和观众表演了武术和中国音乐。
颁奖仪式上,张洁绮老师代表评委介绍了评分规则、感谢所有参赛选手,并祝贺他们的精彩表现。随后,徐孝公参、孙安林副总领事、宋宪琳院长分别为大赛的选手们颁发综合奖、单项奖和参与奖。赢得今年比赛综合一、二等奖的分别是阿德莱德大学的Corey Kirkham和西澳大学的Liam Tay Kearney两位同学,他们将代表澳大利亚(使馆赛区)参加今年7月在中国长沙举行的第十五届世界大学生“汉语桥”的总决赛。
西澳大学孔子学院每年在五月分别举办面向澳大利亚首都地区、北领地、南澳和西澳四地大学生和面向西澳州中学生的两场“汉语桥”中文比赛,让澳洲青年学生展示他们的汉语技能和文化才艺,同时选拔出优秀选手参加更高层次的“汉语桥”大赛。
