Dayle D’Mello of Rossmoyne High School
On Saturday 19 May, the Western Australian Final of the Chinese Bridge (Hanyu Qiao) Competition for Secondary School Students was held at the Confucius Institute of WA. Nine students from eight schools performed in front of an appreciative audience, showing skills in speech, song, dance, poetry, calligraphy and shadow puppetry.
First place was won by the very talented Anna Bullard of Rossmoyne Senior High School. It was a good day for Rossmoyne with Dayle D’Mello taking out second place. It takes great courage to perform in a second language and we congratulate all students on their accomplishments. Special thanks to our contestant Wade Cuthbert who travelled all the way from Geraldton.
The top four scorers now go on to compete against students from South Australia, Northern Territory and the ACT for the opportunity to represent Australia in the World Finals in China. Come along to the Kurrajong Theatre at the Confucius Institute 9am to 12noon Friday 15 June to support your local Mandarin stars in the WA team!
