About us
About us
The Confucius Institute at UWA links Western Australians with Chinese language, Chinese culture and Chinese people. We offer language and cultural awareness tuition all year round, and present a wide range of workshops and cultural events. Our Chinese teachers and volunteers provide classroom support for more than 25 primary and secondary schools in Perth and Bunbury.
We are a partnership between UWA and Zhejiang University. In 2005, we became the first Confucius Institute to be established in Australia. We are located at UWA's historic Claremont campus.
Services
In addition to our school support, we organise study tours to China for school leaders, students and the general community. We help university students access Chinese scholarships and manage China's official language proficiency tests and competitions.
We assist WA business, industry, and government to forge closer and more productive ties with China by delivering tailored cultural awareness training on Chinese customs and etiquette, as well as providing translation and interpreting services.
We service the academic community by facilitating a transcultural platform of intellectual engagement for China-related activities at UWA. We convene conferences, seminars and forums on issues relating to China, often featuring international guest speakers.
In Western Australia we are … Teaching Chinese, Bridging Cultures.
Partners
Our official Chinese higher education partner is Zhejiang University, one of China’s premier tertiary institutions. Zhejiang Province and Western Australia are Sister States and 2017 marked the 30th anniversary of this relationship.
The Australian China Business Council (WA Branch) and the Chinese Language Teachers' Association of WA are also valued partners.
