Cultural activities

The Confucius Institute at UWA connects Western Australians with Chinese language, Chinese culture and Chinese people.

We organise public events for major Chinese cultural celebrations such as Chinese New Year and the Mid-Autumn Festival, often featuring international performers. In 2019 we presented the "Tale of Two Regions - Beautiful China" photographic exhibition at UWA's Cullity Gallery with partners including the Australia China Business Council and the City of Perth.

We also work with local Chinese organisations to present visiting artists or speakers, for example last year we collaborated with the Chung Wah Association to present International Guzheng Day. In 2019 we hosted a Tai Chi master class by world-renowned Tai Chi Grandmaster Chen Xiaowang in conjunction with the Australia Chinese Tai Chi Association. More information on our activities can be found here.

An important part of our cultural line-up is the China in Conversation quarterly public lecture series, which features experts from China and Australia discussing China-related topics of public interest.  More information can be found here.

Community Workshops

In 2021 we have partnered with the WA Museum Boola Bardip to present the Discover China — Culture and Craft Workshops. These free sessions are on the first Sunday of the month during school terms, and all are welcome to attend.

For your local community festival or event we can also offer workshops in calligraphy, paper-cutting, Tai Chi, Kung Fu and more.  You can also bring your school or group to our Claremont campus for a Chinese experience day. Please contact us for more information.

For Children

In partnership with local organisations such as community libraries, we offer workshops for children at various locations throughout the metropolitan area during the school holidays.
