Business Mandarin Classes

These courses introduce fundamental vocabulary and common dialogue used in business situations, which can differ markedly from the language used in social settings. Private Tuition

We offer private lessons catering for one to three participants per session. Sessions are tailored to the individual needs of the students. Online private tuition is now available.

One-on-One sessions:

Private Tuition - 1 session: $100 per hour / $90 per hour concession holders.

Private Tuition - 10 sessions: $900 / $810 concession holders.

Two-on-one sessions:

Private Tuition - 1 session: $140 per hour / $125 per hour concession holders.

Private Tuition - 10 sessions: $1250 / $1125 concession holders.

General Mandarin Classes

Semester 2, Term 1 commences the week beginning Monday 18 July, 2022.

Courses are structured into two semesters with a break in the middle coinciding with WA school holidays. There are 18 classes in each semester.

When:

Semester 2, Term 1 commences the week beginning Monday 18 July, 2022. Classes run for nine weeks.

Evening classes are held from 6.30pm–8.30pm. Morning classes are held from 10am to 12pm.

Minimum enrolment numbers are required to run each class. A full refund will be made if the class cannot run due to low enrolments.

All classes are available at our Claremont campus. An online option is available for all classes.

Which level:
We have made some changes to our course structure to offer greater flexibility for students to join classes throughout the year. Our class levels are:

Entry Level (18 weeks, 36 hours - one semester)

  • No prior learning required.
  • The course will introduce phonetics and tones, the alphabetised system of writing Mandarin Chinese called Pinyin, basic words, phrases and key sentences.
  • This level is equivalent to HSK 1*.
  • Beginner (18 weeks, 36 hours - one semester)

  • Suitable for learners with a basic understanding of tones and Pinyin and a vocabulary of 150 words.
  • On completing the course, students will have been introduced to about 400 words and grammar patterns.
  • This level is equivalent to HSK 2-3*.
  • Elementary (36 weeks, 72 hours - over one year)

  • Suitable for learners with about 50 hours of prior Mandarin learning experience or those who can understand simple sentences, such as introducing yourself, talking about weather and locations etc (eg: 你家离公司近吗?).
  • On completing the course, students will know about 600words and grammar patterns.
  • The full Elementary course takes one year. Students can start in any semester/term because each covers different grammar and vocabulary.
  • This level is equivalent to HSK 3*.
  • Intermediate (36 weeks, 72 hours - over one year)

  • Suitable for learners with a prior vocabulary of 500 words and who can understand elementary level sentences (eg: 这是我第一次在中国人家里过年).
  • On completing the course, students will know about 1000 words and grammar patterns.
  • The full Intermediate course takes one year. Students can start in any semester/term because each covers different grammar and vocabulary.
  • This level is equivalent to HSK 3-4*.
  • Advanced (36 weeks, 72 hours - over one year)

  • Suitable for learners with a vocabulary of 1000 words and fundamental knowledge of Mandarin grammar which allows them to understand intermediate level sentences (eg: 我有时候忙得连午饭都没时间吃).
  • On completing the course, students will have learned about 1,800 words and grammar patterns, and possess the skills to communicate in daily life.
  • This level is equivalent to HSK 4-5*.
  • Advanced Extension (ongoing – enrol by semester)

  • This course is designed for students that might have lived in a Mandarin speaking environment for some time or have otherwise built up a high level of competency in speaking Mandarin.
  • On completing the course, students should be able to use about 2,500 words and grammar patterns confidently, and be able to read newspapers, enjoy movies, and give a speech in Mandarin.
  • This level is equivalent to HSK 5*.
  • Textbooks will be introduced in the classroom.  We review teaching material annually to ensure we are using the best available resources to match student requirements.

    Parking:

    Parking on campus is normally free during the evening, or $3 per day during business hours.

    Public Holidays:

    As classes do not run on public holidays, some courses may extend beyond nine weeks to ensure the full language program is provided.
