Participants on the 2019 China Experience
Twenty intrepid young travellers have returned to Perth after taking part in the 2019 China Experience for Secondary School Students tour.
The tour, which takes place each April school holidays, provides young Australians with a wonderful opportunity to immerse themselves in Chinese life and culture while extending their language studies. The trip has been growing in popularity and this year there were more applications than places available.
The students took morning Chinese language classes at Zhejiang University and their afternoons were filled with many different cultural activities including sightseeing in Hangzhou and Shanghai. They interacted with local Chinese teachers and students to experience Chinese education and learn more about the life of Chinese young people.
Highlights of the trip included visiting a Hangzhou high school, sightseeing on the famous West Lake, exploring a Song Dynasty town and observing the world from the 100th floor of a Shanghai skyscraper.

Talking to students from China it was so good to understand what life for people our age in another country is like. To know what they do for hobbies and school and to be able to compare their lives to ours is something that is not possible to do without going to another country... it was interesting to see the similarities between us and them!
I loved every minute of it and I tell others how much I loved it. It was definitely an experience that not only changed my skills of Chinese but my perspective of the world. I would pay anything to go back on that tour!Riley Stubbs, Student
Thank you to the Confucius Institute of UWA for organizing such an amazing trip to China! What a unique opportunity for the students. They have experienced and seen first-hand so many aspects of the Chinese culture, practiced their Chinese and most importantly they made so many new wonderful friendships!!! Many congratulations for a trip well organised and for a tour worth doing!Constantina Panourgias, Parent

As parents, we were impressed with the smoothness of the whole tour. Everything was handled with upmost professionalism and care as well! Having a child leave for 10 days overseas for the first time was nerve-wracking but you all made it so easy for us. The WeChat app was perfect for us to see what they were doing and the photos uploaded each day were reassuring to say the least! Thank you again and we wish you all the best for the future of this wonderful program.
